En plein air drawing is associated with the practice of observation and exploration of space. A close encounter with a building and prolonged experience of its environment contribute to our deeper understanding of a given location. This impacts one’s judgement and imagination. For an architect, such a location gets associated with more points of reference and connotations. The act of drawing out-of-doors means delving into the essence of a building and is an excellent study of spatial arrangement. Drawing from nature does not only require technique, but also involves a playful approach to the atmosphere, colours and method of constructing the spatial layout/structure. The qualities conveyed include emotion, feelings and moods. One can paint the same building again and again and each time it will be a completely different work reflecting the perception of the place at a given moment.
