The theme of winter is reflected in the hotel’s components making reference to the structure of a snowflake. The layout of the establishment was determined by a combination of several factors, such as the location (a place with cold, long winters with lots of snow), the fairy-tale imagery and the designers’ intention to create distinctive and lucid forms corresponding to the environment. Blending into the surrounding landforms, and concealed in an escarpment, the hotel building features arctic white yet warm-looking interior design.
Gazing outside, the guests can admire a view towards the fabulous natural environment owing to the snowflake-structured glass walls. Their arrangement at just the right angle makes it possible for the falling snow to slide down, which further enhances the functional efficiency of the building. The layout of the hotel creates an indoor park with an ice rink. During the off-season, the ice circle turns into a summer terrace with a drawing of a snowflake on the floor – a perfect location for performances and creative activities. Snowflake-shaped windows are the only feature in the ice rink as a result of which one can feel here like in a fantasy land. The seasonal aurora borealis and sculptures in the hotel park add to the magical effect of the place. The guest rooms face the outer perimeter of the complex. As a result those staying in can enjoy undisturbed silence and the view towards the surrounding area. With all that in mind, the common areas and places for meetings are located in the central part of the building near the atrium holding the hotel reception.
The Arctic Spa Snowflake Hotel itself is a distinctive artistic object. A visit to this place can be an unforgettable experience and adventure. It is a place where you can feel the good spirit of northern Norway. The establishment has the potential to be a tourist attraction for all seasons of the year. Ms. Alicja Weder (email: aliceweder@arcticforlife.com ) who commissioned the design is currently preparing to complete the project and is open to investors willing to participate.
